Natonal Family Week
Bringing the nation's families together
National Family Week is an annual event celebrating the value of family life in the UK, taking place during the summer half term holiday.
Launched in May 2009 by Family Week Ltd, subsidiary of Henley Media, National Family Week is endorsed by Prime Minister David Cameron and the leaders of all major UK political parties as well as many influential celebrities. The initiative is also supported by over 180 national organisations including charities, local authorities, community groups and sporting associations, making it the biggest celebration of family life in the UK.
The Week focuses on the important role families play in society and encourages healthy active lifestyles and fun, quality family time. No two families are alike and National Family Week celebrates diversity, supporting a range of initiatives and using the strength of media presence to help bring about positive change.
Theme days have included the Family Week Picnic, Story Time and Sports Day plus families have enjoyed fantastic giveaways, discounts and offers through partners of The Week which have included visitor attractions, cinema chains and restaurants.
In addition, competitions have seen the UK search for the Family of the Year, Big Family Idea, most talented family pet and best family photo as well as the Great Family Giveaway, with over £50,000 worth of prizes to be won.
The inaugural week took place from 25th to 31st May 2009 and included over 4,000 official events across the UK, from picnics to sports days and talent shows to story times. Nearly 250,000 people attended the official events and National Family Week appeared in over 1,100 pieces of media coverage. In 2010 National Family Week grew with over 5,000 official events taking place all across the UK and over 500,000 people taking part plus over 2,200 pieces of media coverage were generated including on GMTV, This Morning and Countdown!
National Family Week continues to grow, with 2011 set to be even bigger and better.
